Dr. Zeng's research focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying plant-bacteria interactions, with a particular emphasis on the roles of posttranslational modifications, especially ubiquitination, in plan immunity. His lab takes a multidisciplinary approach, integrating genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, plant pathology, and multi-omics, to identify and characterize the genes, proteoforms, and signal transduction networks involved in host defense against the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, which causes the economically significant bacterial speck disease of tomato. The long-term goal of the Zeng laboratory is to elucidate and ultimately manipulate key molecular mechanisms to enhance crop resistance against a range of pathogens, including stubborn phytopathogenic bacteria.
