Dr. Mangel is an Assistant Professor and Extension Plant Pathologist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research and extension program is dedicated to addressing plant pathogens of field crops, with a particular focus on soybean diseases such as Sclerotinia stem rot, Phytophthora root and stem rot, sudden death syndrome, frogeye leaf spot, and soybean cyst nematode. Dr. Mangel's work is grounded in applied, field-based research, aiming to develop practical disease management strategies that reduce yield losses and enhance crop resilience. By conducting field-scale trials and leveraging the UNL On-Farm Research program, Dr. Mangel's comprehensive approach bridges the gap between research and practice, providing farmers with actionable insights to effectively combat disease threats.
