Thursday, June 1, 2017

The Plant Diseases Across Nebraska (PLPT 891) course took place June 5-9 with 14 enrolled students and was led by Tamra Jackson-Ziems and Sydney Everhart.  This year’s class spent the week traveling to stops, such as Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha, the UNL Plant & Pest Diagnostic Clinic, wheat diseases with Stephen Wegulo, UNL South Central Ag Lab near Clay Center, Schindler Ag Flying Service, O’Neill Ventures hydroponic tomatoes, Shamrock Nursery, Ziems Farm near Ewing, Lambert Melons near Chambers, and Rasmussen Christmas Tree Farm near Plainview. The class also visited the UNL Ashfall Fossil Beds near Royal. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!  Next year’s class is tentatively planned for August 13-17, 2018 and will take the group to the Panhandle in western Nebraska and back through the Sandhills region to see a diversity of crops and diseases!  As a reminder, this course is largely supported by donations.  Please let Margaret Denning or Tamra Jackson-Ziems know if you would like to make a contribution(s) to support this course so that our students can continue to participate at no cost. Thank you to everyone who supported this course!
